cg1Claudio Gabriele - Composer
       Composer, pianist, organist, conductor, Claudio Gabriele obtained his diplomas at the Conservatory and Academy of Santa Cecilia, studying with Vieri Tosatti, Georges Benjamin, and Giorgio Nottoli. He specialised in electroacoustics at the Music Research Centre in Rome, where he studied with Michelangelo Lupone, Curtis Roads, Jean-Claude Risset, and Giuseppe Di Giugno. He continued his training in France at the Conservatory of Strasbourg (studying with Ivan Fedele, Georges Aperghis, Pascal Dusapin, and François Bernard Mâche), I.R.C.A.M. in Paris (taking courses with Brian Ferneyhough, Magnus Lindberg, Jacques Rebotier, Marco Stroppa, and Michaël Lévinas), GRM-Paris (Daniel Teruggi), Campus Acanthes in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon (attending masterclasses with Klaus Huber, Toshio Hosokawa, Jonathan Harvey). He completed his training at New York University (Robert Rowe, Esther Lamneck, Douglas Dunn).
       In 2003, he won First Prize at the Musica Nova International Electroacoustic Music Competition in Prague (Czech Republic) and in 2006 he was awarded a prize at the Music in the Garden International Composition Competition in Krakow (Poland).
       His vast musical production ranges from solo instruments to chamber music, from symphony orchestras to musical theatre, also making use of electroacoustic means. He collaborates with important musicians of international renown, including Georges Aperghis, Gilbert Amy, Jean- Sébastien Béreau, Ennio Morricone, Pierre Gueyrard, Giorgio Carnini, and Seth Parker Woods.

       Over the years, in order to perform and disseminate his own works and those of contemporary artists, he has founded and directed several musical ensembles: Synthesis Ensemble, Cassiopée Ensemble, Flessibilità Lineari Ensemble. He focuses primarily on the creation of scores with unconventional notation using ideograms, psychographic signs, visual codes and electroacoustic references. Furthermore, in his creative work with his ensemble, Claudio Gabriele focuses on multimedia performances that bring together music, literature, dance, and visual arts, also expanding the spectrum of Western classical musical instruments with the use of electroacoustic means (Theremin, electric guitars, synthesizers) and the inclusion of popular European and non- European ethnic instruments (guzheng, erhu, didgeridoo, handpan drum, tammorra, accordion, mandolin, mandoloncello).
       An important part of Claudio Gabriele's creative work is composing pieces for saxophone, from solos to quartets, from large ensembles of 12 saxophones to pieces for orchestra with saxophone. He collaborates with numerous internationally renowned saxophonists, including Frederick Hemke, Jean-Michel Goury, Jean-Pierre Caens, Philippe Geiss, Dennis Shafer, Ken Radnofsky, Stéphane Sordet, and Sylvain Guignery. Frederick Hemke wrote of him: “One of the greatest composers for saxophone”. In 2022, he received several commissions and an invitation to Paris for the celebrations of Jean-Marie Londeix's 90th birthday.
       He collaborates as a teacher and composer-in-residence with numerous international institutions: New York University, Vanderbilt University, Hartford University, Boston Conservatory, Longy School of Music, Université de Montpellier, Université de Strasbourg, Conservatoires de Paris- Boulogne, Strasbourg, Nîmes, and Aix-en-Provence.
       Since 2018, he has been travelling regularly to China to give masterclasses and lectures on composition and piano at leading universities and conservatories in major Chinese cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Zhangzhou, Guangzhou, and Wenzhou. For over 25 years, he has been a full professor at the “Nicola Sala” State Conservatory of Music in Benevento, where he teaches composition, analysis and music informatics, also serving as Head of Department and member of the Academic Council.

       Au fil des ans, afin de représenter et de diffuser ses propres oeuvres et celles d'artistes contemporains, il fonde et dirige plusieurs ensembles musicaux : Synthesis Ensemble, Cassiopée Ensemble, Flessibilità Lineari Ensemble. Il se concentre principalement sur la réalisation de partitions avec une notation non conventionnelle utilisant des idéogrammes, des signes psychographiques, des codes visuels et des références électroacoustiques. De plus, dans le cadre de son activité créative avec son ensemble, Claudio Gabriele se concentre sur des spectacles multimédias qui associent musique, littérature, danse et arts visuels, élargissant ainsi le spectre des instruments de musique occidentale classique grâce à l'utilisation de moyens électroacoustiques (theremin, guitares électriques, synthétiseurs) et à l'intégration d'instruments populaires ethniques européens et extra-européens (guzheng, erhu, didgeridoo, handpan drum, tammorra, accordéon, mandoline, mandoloncello).
       Un chapitre important de l'activité créative de Claudio Gabriele est la composition de morceaux pour saxophone, du « solo » au quatuor, du grand ensemble de 12 saxophones aux morceaux pour orchestre avec saxophone. Il collabore avec de nombreux saxophonistes de renommée internationale, parmi lesquels : Frederick Hemke, Jean-Michel Goury, Jean-Pierre Caens, Philippe Geiss, Dennis Shafer, Ken Radnofsky, Stéphane Sordet, Sylvain Guignery . Frederick Hemke a écrit à son sujet : « L'un des plus grands compositeurs pour saxophone ». En 2022, il a reçu plusieurs commandes et une invitation à Paris pour les célébrations du 90e anniversaire de Jean-Marie Londeix.
       Il collabore en tant que professeur et « compositeur en résidence » avec de nombreuses institutions internationales : New York University, Vanderbilt University, Hartford University, Boston Conservatory, Longy School of Music, Université de Montpellier, Université de Strasbourg, Conservatoires de Paris-Boulogne, Strasbourg, Nîmes, Aix-en-Provence.
       Depuis 2018, il se rend régulièrement en Chine pour donner des masterclasses et des conférences sur la composition et le piano dans les grandes universités et conservatoires des principales villes chinoises : Pékin, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Zhangzhou, Guangzhou, Wenzhou.
       Depuis plus de 25 ans, il est professeur titulaire au Conservatoire National de Musique « Nicola Sala » de Bénévent où il enseigne la composition, l'analyse et l'informatique musicale, tout en occupant les fonctions de Chef de Département et de membre du Conseil Académique.

       Nel corso degli anni, per la rappresentazione e la diffusione delle proprie opere e quelle di artisti contemporanei, fonda e dirige diversi ensemble musicali: Synthesis Ensemble, Cassiopée Ensemble, Flessibilità Lineari Ensemble. concentrandosi soprattutto sulla realizzazione di partiture con notazione non convenzione con uso di ideogrammi, segni psico-grafici, codici visivi e riferimenti elettroacustici.        Un capitolo rilevante dell'attività creativa di Claudio Gabriele è la composizione di brani per sassofono, dal “solo” al quartetto, dal grande ensemble di 12 sassofoni ai brani per orchestra con sassofono. Collabora con numerosi sassofonisti di fama internazionale, tra i quali: Frederick Hemke, Jean-Michel Goury, Jean-Pierre Caens, Philippe Geiss, Dennis Shafer, Ken Radnofsky, Stéphane Sordet, Sylvain Guignery. Frederick Hemke ha scritto di lui: “Uno dei più grandi compositori per sassofono”. Nel 2022 ha ricevuto più commissioni e un invito a Parigi per le celebrazioni del 90° compleanno di Jean-Marie Londeix.
       Collabora in qualità di docente e “compositore in residenza” con numerose istituzioni internazionali: New York University, Vanderbilt University, Hartford University, Boston Conservatory, Longy School of Music, Université de Montpellier, Université de Strasbourg, Conservatoires de Paris-Boulogne, Strasbourg, Nîmes, Aix-en-Provence.
       Dal 2018 si reca periodicamente in Cina per masterclass e conferenze sulla composizione e sul pianoforte in importanti università e conservatori delle maggiori città della Cina: Pechino, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Zhangzhou, Guangzhou, Wenzhou.
       Da oltre 25 anni è docente titolare presso il Conservatorio Statale di Musica “Nicola Sala” di Benevento dove insegna Composizione, Analisi, Informatica musicale, svolgendo anche gli incarichi di Capo Dipartimento e di membro del Consigli Accademico.
